In this episode of Ugandan Art Speaks Out, we are privileged to host Adnan Ssenkumba, an extraordinary sound recordist and sound designer from Uganda. Adnan is a co-founder and director of Omuti Kreativ, a non-profit organization dedicated to social change through creative arts and media. He is also the creative genius behind the immersive soundscapes of Ugandan Art Speaks Out itself.
Adnan's journey is a testament to his versatility as a sound professional. Trained as an actor at the Department of Performing Arts and Film Makerere University Kampala, Uganda (2008-2011), he transitioned into sound design after three years of intensive training, workshops, and personal efforts. His remarkable entry into the Ugandan film industry was marked by his work as a sound man on the Maishia Film Lab short film, "BLACK HALL" in 2010.
Inspired by world-renowned sound designers such as VIVEC SACHIDANAND and KAI TEBBEL, Adnan has honed his skills in sound recording and design. His abilities have left an indelible mark on Uganda's film landscape, evident in his contributions to significant projects such as Mira Nair’s Short Documentary "A Fork, Spoon, and Knight" and the acclaimed "Queen of Katwe."
Adnan's keen sensitivity and dedication to storytelling through sound have made him a sought-after collaborator in Uganda's film industry. His imaginative approach, drawn from a rich blend of training and global influences, has earned him recognition and admiration.
