ON THIS PODCAST WE'LL DISCUSS: AFFAIR'S & INFIDELITY

  1. What's the definition of an affair?
  2. Recognizing our societal bias towards the cheater
  3. Learning how to best support not only the cheated but rather choosing to support both the cheated & the cheater at the very same time
  4. Can a violator of trust get to a definitive 'why' of their actions?
  5. What steps can a cheater take to say more than "I'm Sorry"

Dr. Deb Miller is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 25 years as a therapist working with people of all ages. She has focused on helping couples repair their relationship after an affair in the last decade.
She recently published, More Than Sorry: 5 Steps to Deep Your Apology After You Have Committed Infidelity. Although this publication narrowly targets the cheater, the reminder is that, universally, we all can do a better job of fixing intentional and unintentional slights that wound others.
Deb's goal is to teach, inspire, and encourage self-exploration!
Deb helps us navigate how to help those who wound others, own their transgression, examine their shortcoming, and make repairs - both personally and in their relationship with others.
While our culture shames the adulterer, it is important to accept that healing and forgiveness can happen through empathy, honesty, and self-analysis. One's past shortcomings don't have to define who you are today and in the future.

SIDEBAR: HELPFUL BREAK-AWAY

How do we best help and support not only the cheated but also the cheater?
Wait, what?

  • Isn't the cheater the one that needs to be "punished'?
  • Isn't the cheater the one that deserves to be put on ice for a period of time to show our disdain for the violation?
  • Aren't these actions of 'punishing' and 'freezing out' helpful because they support humanity's need to value loyalty?

When you consider that we tend to feel best when we show up with beneficial non-harmful behaviors,

  • what exactly is our responsibility as human beings when we experience an affair and or infidelity inside our world or through the experience of a friend?
