Welcome to another episode!

Today I had the honor to share the space with Kim Guerra, a therapist, author, and creator of the "Badass Bonita" brand and someone I call a friend.

In our conversation, Kim and I delved into the intricate connection between childhood trauma, family influence, and diet culture. Growing up in an immigrant family in Los Angeles, Kim faced the challenges of responsibility and survival, coupled with the heavy burden of trauma. These experiences, compounded by societal pressures, led to feelings of shame and self-blame for her body. Kim poignantly shared how her conditioning as a child to be silent and obedient contributed to internalized shame and disordered eating as a way to regain control amidst the chaos.

Kim's book, "Badass Bonita: Breaking Silence, Becoming Revolution, Unearth Your Inner Guerrera," provides a framework for achieving body liberation. Through her writing, Kim shares her deeply personal experiences, such as trauma, abuse, divorce, family dynamics, queerness, and intergenerational healing. The book is structured in four parts, each representing a stage of transformation: Caterpillar, Chrysalis, Breakthrough, and Using Wings.

This metaphorical journey from caterpillar to butterfly echoes the challenging yet necessary steps we must take for personal and communal growth. Emphasizing the goal of body sovereignty and liberation, Kim's work serves as both a guide and an encouragement for others to embark on their healing journeys.

I invite listeners to support Kim by purchasing her book, available in various formats on Instagram and TikTok under the handle "Badass x Bonita." Join her upcoming book events and retreats.
