David graduated from the MA Songwriting programme at ICMP and now works as a freelance writer and guitar/songwriting private teacher.

David talks through his transition from education to employment and how he developed a foundation of tuition work, allowing him to focus his career entirely on music. He also discussed the need to understand the breadth of the industry and the benefits of cross-pollinating whilst networking, introducing your contacts to one another can be just as fruitful as finding new contacts.

Key advice for songwriters, don't pigeonhole yourself within your writing and neglect the other aspects of your work. As a writer, don't shy away from production - key to your success will be adding more strings to your bow, look to diversify and not label yourself.
