Ex-Boro, Villa and Bolton star Neil Cox in conversation
Manage episode 407436966 series 3560205
Host Carl Jones is joined by former Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Bolton and Watford defender Neil Cox to deep dive into a career with more than 600 professional appearances.
From being integrated into the first team squad aged just 13 at his hometown club Scunthorpe United to a unique transfer fee to Villa Park and the top flight in 1991, Neil's career path is a fascinating one.
Part of the Riverside Revolution, as Middlesbrough signed off at Ayresome Park by winning the First Division title, he was a key member of the Boro side that reached both cup finals and suffered relegation thanks to a points deduction in 1996/97. We discuss that and how his bust-up with Fabrizio Ravanelli led to him meeting Pele.
We also chat about what it's like to play in a final day relegation decider, his vastly different relationships with Graham Taylor and Gianluca Vialli at Watford, and his own move into the dugout as Assistant at AFC Wimbledon - what were those first meetings with MK Dons like?
