Brooke Martell (2011-15) is a meteorologist and reporter for NBC 7 in San Diego, the same station where she interned as a student and where she worked her first broadcasting job after SDSU.

In between, she was a reporter and weather forecaster in her hometown of San Luis Obispo, Calif. where she covered wildfires, weather events, and community issues. Brooke shares how those stories impacted her decision to take online classes to obtain a certificate in meteorology, and why weather and climate stories are important to her.

Brooke offers practical advice on recording standups in the field as a solo MMJ, getting comfortable in front of a green screen while delivering the weather, plus how NBC 7 uses videos/reels on social media to drive traffic to their website and live news programs.

"Where Ya At?" is a podcast focused on the School of Journalism and Media Studies at San Diego State University. Each week, during the Fall and Spring semesters, host Josh Suchon (Class of 1996) interviews alumni to learn about their experiences as college students, entering the workforce, key steps in their professional development, advice they'd give to current students, and details about how they covered a specific story.
