The architect of the monster teams that ruled the Iowa Conference in the 1980s was Al Baxter. On Episode 9 of the BVU Wrestling BeaverCast, we'll catch up with coach Baxter as he's now enjoying retirement in Chesapeake, Virginia, playing golf, cooking and keeping up with old coaches and friends on the telephone. Baxter was coached by legendary high school coach Bob Darrah and after a two-sport career at Morningside College, Baxter got into coaching, building the wrestling program at Lisbon from scratch. He was again called upon to build a program from scratch as he arrived in Storm Lake to take over the wrestling program at Buena Vista. He coached the Beavers from 1978 until his retirement in 2004. Baxter gives an amazing insight to coaching, relationships and life at a small school in Iowa.
