24:55Text “Do people even want to know about some of these issues? Because I think some of the meat production concerns, it's kind of like people would rather in some cases, I think some people might not really want to know all the nitty gritty. They don't want to know how the sausage is made. That poses an interesting question and challenge about how you communicate about some of these issues, when maybe there's a resistance among a subset of people who don't want to know more.” - Patti Truant Anderson This is the fourth episode in a special four-part series where we go deep into the food system with some of the brightest minds from Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future, an interdisciplinary center based out of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. One of the reasons that we did this series is because we're about to enter another four years with the Trump administration; and last time, as we know, the Trump administration was pretty terrible for the food system in terms of climate, public health, worker safety, and of course, for the animals. This conversation is with Patty Truant Anderson. Patty is a senior program officer at the center. Part of her work at the Center focuses on public opinion polling around the food system. These polls can inform decisions by lawmakers. The great news is we're not nearly as polarized as it might seem. There is a lot of hope in the results. 1:12:27An episode 30 years in the making! On Chanukah 1994, Josh Shron and his then-girlfriend (now wife) Mairov Dubrovsky wandered into the WRSU Studios as Rutgers University students, and began their radio careers by playing 'Hora' by Avi Toledano. That episode flourished into a full fledged obsession over Israel and its culture, and Josh hasn't looked back. This week, Mairov and Josh are BACK where it all began 30 years ago, at WRSU Studios, for their official 30th anniversary celebration! We have a LOT of memories to share...so join the party, reminisce with us, listen to some great Chanukah music, and celebrate this exciting milestone in Israel Hour history! Israel Hour Radio - Israeli Music Podcast
This week, families across the USA gathered for Thanksgiving...a holiday that's become a day about food, football and shopping...but SHOULD be about gratitude. Thankfully (see what I did there?), Israelis tend to be pretty good about expressing appreciation for things that are important to them, in real life and in song. So today we present a playlist of Israeli songs about gratitude and appreciation for blessings large and small, from nature to family to love to our beloved homeland. Have we mentioned how grateful we are that you're tuned in? THANK YOU for listening to Israel Hour Radio! 58:19It's always fun to sample the latest and greatest Israeli music, to keep up to date with the sound of Israel in real time. But these days, new Israeli music takes many forms. Some songs help us escape the realities of 2024 Israel, while others drag us right into the middle. And so, as we look into the best new music of the past few weeks, we'll hear the best of both worlds: the songs that are just plain fun, plus a selection of songs released to mark the first anniversary of October 7. Prepare for an emotional roller coaster. Yup, it's THAT kind of show again. (Original Air Date: November 10, 2024) Full playlist at https://www.myisraelimusic.com/episode1209 Love the show? How are you dealing with the clock change? We 'fell back' in Israel on October 27, and most did so in the USA a week later. Seems that many of us have been hyper-focused on the time of day ever since, right? 'It's only 5pm...how does it already feel like midnight?' Well, with all this talk about time, it seemed like a good *time* to play songs about TIME on Israel Hour Radio! The time will certainly pass quickly as you spend quality time with this week's episode, having a good time listening to timeless Israeli songs about time. So, time to tune in...we think it will be a good use of your time! (Original Air Date: October 27, 2024) Full playlist at https://www.myisraelimusic.com/episode1207 Love the show? 1:00:27Chag Sameach! Sukkot is known as “Zman Simchatenu” – the time of our joy. But after the year we’ve had – and with the yahrtzeit of those who lost their lives on October 7 coming up this week - joy is not so easy to come by nowadays. Still, we’re going to try to lift your spirits just a bit this holiday by playing Israeli songs that can INSTANTLY put a smile on your face. Some songs can magically transform your day, after just a few notes. Thanks to our wonderful Israeli Music Community on Facebook, we've curated a playlist of Israeli songs that are sure to help you smile through the pain - and just maybe, that's exactly what we need as we approach Simchat Torah 5784. 1:02:46Whether or not you're a practicing Jew, we can all get behind the idea of praying for a good new year. That's why this year's Yom Kippur observance was probably the most meaningful, the most inspirational, the most powerful in most of our lifetimes. With concern for our troops in the north and south, Israel under constant missile fire, prayers for the 101 hostages held in Gaza, and increased antisemitism around the world, we certainly had a lot to pray for this year. So when Galgalatz radio asked its social media followers to share which songs were on their minds this past Yom Kippur, the 2,000+ responses they received really gave a good sense of the mental state of Israeli society right now. Today on Israel Hour Radio, we play some of the songs mentioned that were most impactful. 1:02:43Each year around this time, we look back at the most popular Israeli music of the past Jewish year. This, however, was no ordinary year. With war, hostages, loss, and fear dominating the headlines all year long, the music of 5784 had to rise to the occasion - providing comfort, strength, and inspiration. Well, sort of. While many of the year's most popular songs did just that, others offered a short respite...a diversion from the tragedies that unfolded around us. So as we look back at the top songs of 5784 on the eve of the October 7 anniversary, you'll hear a mix of the meaningful and the mundane - because that's exactly what Israelis needed to hear, all year long. 1:03:40Recorded on the day after Israel's elimination of Hassan Nasrallah, this podcast brings with it a wide range of emotions. We're elated over Israel's military success, but still feeling the pain of coming to Rosh Hashana with our hostages still not home. To make things worse, the anniversary of October 7th is only a few days away, and those painful memories are still very fresh in our minds. Yes, it's been a rough year for Israel, and for Jews around the world. But as we approach Rosh Hashana, we have the opportunity to look forward to a fresh start. So this week on Israel Hour Radio, the music you'll hear celebrates Israel's military might, prays for a good year ahead, longs for the return of our hostages, and closes the book on a year many of us would like to forget. Welcome to Israel Hour Radio's annual AUGUST CHAGIGOT! Each week during the month of August, we'll devote our show to a particular topic in Israeli music. And today? We celebrate the Israeli weekend (regardless of how you celebrate it) with our Chagigat Shirei Shabbat...an hour of Israeli songs about Shabbat! While some spend their Saturdays immersed in prayer and study, others spend it at the beach, in the park, or in the club. For many, it's a combination of all of the above...with a festive Friday night dinner and quality family time at home. No matter how you spend your day, however, Shabbat in Israel is a very special time, with a feeling unlike anywhere else in the world. Shabbat Shalom! 1:05:16The Summer Olympics are taking place this week in Paris, France, with the spirit of brotherhood, unity, multiculturalism, and competitiveness on full display around the world. These are values shared by every Israeli, and we wish more than anything that our biggest conflicts with other nations were settled on the playing field rather than the battlefield. Israelis love to sing about their own country, but they also love to sing about other countries they admire around the world. So this week on Israel Hour Radio, in the spirit of multiculturalism - and in hopes for world peace - we bring you Israeli songs about countries around the world. Fasten your seatbelt, because we're taking you on a whirlwind journey to France, England, Iceland, Brazil, the UAE, Greece, and many more exciting destinations! You don't even need your passport!
