In the U.S., women-owned small businesses are a powerhouse, generating $2.7 trillion annually, employing nearly 12.2 million people, and making up 40% of all businesses. Yet, despite this incredible impact, Lendio found that in 2023, women were still less likely than men to secure business loans or receive the full amount needed to fuel their growth.

This week’s guest knows firsthand the challenges and triumphs of building a successful business, especially while juggling motherhood. Crystalee Beck, MPC, is a wife and mama to four adorable mess-maker and an award-winning speaker and the trailblazing founder of Comma Copywriters. After stepping away from the corporate world in 2016, Crystalee built her own ladder, determined to be there for her kids while pursuing her passion. Her company has been named four times to Utah Business magazine's Fast 50 and twice to the MountainWest Capital Network's list of Utah 100. Comma has also been honored by the Utah Governor's office as one of the inaugural 100 Companies Championing Women.

Crystalee leads her 30-person team with a "life first" approach, delivering high-quality content for top tech companies in Silicon Slopes and world-class brands beyond Utah. But her passion extends beyond her own business. Through The Mama Ladder and the High Five Grant for Moms, Crystalee is empowering other mom entrepreneurs to take up space and build their own ladders.

Since 2018, the High Five Grant for Moms has:

  • Awarded $70,500 in grants and $33,000+ in goods and services to 65 mom business owners
  • Built a thriving community that offers support, education, and hope to thousands of mom entrepreneurs
  • Had former finalists featured on Shark Tank, Good Morning America, NBC News, Forbes, People, and more
  • Seen past winners get their products into major retailers like Amazon, Target, Walmart, buybuy BABY, CVS, Walgreens, and Rite Aid

If you’re a mompreneur or aspiring to be one, this conversation is a must-listen. Crystalee shares her journey from start-up to award-winning success and how she’s helping other mothers in business do the same.

The High Five Grant for Moms is a business grant competition dedicated to ambitious moms building businesses while raising babies. In partnership with The Profitability Project, grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 are available.

Apply between September 1-30, 2024, at www.highfivegrant.com, and be sure to follow Crystalee on Instagram @themamaladder or connect with her on LinkedIn.
