Your gut may be the key to better health. So my friend Dr. Parastoo Jangouk, MD, a GI doctor, is here to help uncover why gut health should matter to you. Dr. Jangouk is dual board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. She has extensive GI research conducted at several renowned institutions including the Johns Hopkins University and her expertise resides in functional GI disorders including irritable bowel syndrome. In this episode, Dr. Jangouk acts as our professor taking us through a beginner course on how the GI system works and how our understanding has evolved over time. We discuss the gut microbiome, which are the many microscopic organisms that live in our gut. We get into how diet, certain activities, people you live with, and even your pets affect your gut microbiome, and how disruption of this microbiome can have adverse effects over time. We then discuss the gut as our second brain and how mindset along with stress management can benefit your gut health as well as your overall health.
