The food we eat is of such fundamental importance not just to our physical health but to our mental health too, and at a time when the world is experiencing a mental health crisis I felt it important to speak with someone who is at the forefront of a growing area of medical research. Prof Felice Jacka – Author of Brain changer she is the professor of nutritional psychiatry and Co-Director of the Food & Mood Centre and founder and President of the International Society for Nutritional Psychiatry Research.

We define what nutritional psychiatry is and talk about her now famous Smiles trial in it depressed patients saw remarkable improvements in their mental health in only 12 weeks just from improving their diets.

We hear how processed foods affect the brain and our gut microbiome diversity in a negative way.

We learn just how much of the standard western diet is made up of processed foods and the percentage of illnesses these foods contribute towards.
