Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and indeterminate colitis) can affect more than the intestines. One of the potential complications is perianal disease, which affects the area around the anus (the bottom). This includes fissures (a tear in the anal canal) and fistulas (an abnormal connection between two organs or an organ and the skin). To find out how these are managed and what treatments are being developed, the IBDMoms talk to David A. Schwartz, MD, who is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Vanderbilt University and the founder and Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Plus: hosts Brooke and Amber talk about why they are exhausted with the internet challenges that are part of today’s teen culture.

Episode presented by Takeda.
