Derrick is a third degree black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Ricardo “Franjinha” Miller. We talk about the trials and tribulations of opening his academy, Dark Clan Fight Lab, and its recent closure. This opens a conversation about the ways in which our path in life sets up our expectations and response to challenges as adults. We also spend some time on the topic of talk therapy and how it can be stigmatized in our culture, especially for men. It was so much fun to sit down and have a deep conversation through a variety of topics with a long time friend and incredibly talented and interesting individual.
