Professor Nikolai Petrovsky graduated from Medicine at the University of Tasmania in 1982. He then went on to do his Fellowship specialising in Endocrinology. Not stopping there, he completed a PhD in Immunology at the Walter & Eliza Hall institute in Melbourne, one of the world’s leading Immunology research centres. In addition to being an active clinician, Nikolai is a Professor of Medicine at Flinders University and Chairman and Research director of Vaxine Pty Ltd, an Adelaide-based biotechnology company focused on vaccine development. Over the last 18 years he has been awarded over $50 million dollars in vaccine research grants including multiple grants from the US government’s National Institutes of Health. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed research papers and has won many prestigious awards including Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2010 and Asian Executive of the Year award in 2011. His current focus is completing development of his company’s protein-based vaccine against COVID-19 that is just entering final Phase 3 clinical trials and is expected to be approved overseas before the end of 2021.
