Ever experienced the paranoia that the pandemic brought into our lives and wondered how it could inspire a fascinating musical journey? In this episode, we sit down with the incredibly talented producer, songwriter, and video artist, Nicky Click, as she takes us through her new album, Reductive Nostalgia, and how it came to life during the quarantine. Nikki shares the story behind her comeback song "Can't Touch Anything," as well as the weirdest things she's witnessed during the pandemic, and we dive deep into her more personal creation, "Ghost in the Attic."
As musicians, we find solace in sharing our personal stories, dreams, and aspirations. I take you through my journey, from yearning to collaborate with the band Chicks on Speed to penning my song Gone Fish, which is all about taking a chance at love. We also reminisce about my eighth-grade self, my love for music, and the challenges I faced as a lesbian in high school.
We wrap up the episode by discussing our creative processes, from creating alter egos for music to the power of self-awareness during interviews. Nicky and I connect over the feelings of validation and contentment that come from performing for an audience and being in a relationship. Nicky's mission to make people dance while contemplating deeper thoughts is truly inspiring, as are her pre-performance rituals. Don't miss out on this insightful and thought-provoking conversation with the amazing Nicky Click!
