This is the fifth and final in our Confidence and Self-Belief mini-series and this one is all about quietening that inner 'imp' which can cause us to feel like we are not able or qualified enough to be doing what we are doing - aka The Imposter Syndrome. A phrase created in the 1970's, plays on our self doubts, worries and concerns which are all part of the human experience.
Common as these feelings are, it can impact our confidence and courage to thrive and stretch ourselves and can become a negative habit that can chip away at our identity and sense of self.
A common theme for even the most experienced professionals, it is often a sign of passion, commitment and responsibility - so own your 'imp' to empower yourself by seeing it for what it is. We summarise the inspirational Matthew Syed's work on Purposeful Practice, and Dr Valerie Young's work on Fraudulent Feelings Among High Achievers. We share a set of practical tips for shifting from imposter to empowerer. Taking 30 mins out to invest in yourself to dial up your confidence.
