Brandi Morin is an award-winning French/Cree/Iroquois journalist from Treaty 6, AB, Canada. For the last ten years, Brandi has specialized in sharing Indigenous stories through her career in journalism. Brandi's voice as a journalist has contributed to reconciliation in Canada’s political, cultural and social environments. Brandi's most notable work is published/broadcasted with Al Jazeera English, the National Observer, the Toronto Star, Power & Politics, CTV National, CBC Newsnet, the New York Times, CBC Indigenous and many others. Brandi won a Human Rights Reporting award from the Canadian Association of Journalists in April of 2019 for her work with the CBC's Beyond 94 project tracking the progress of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action.
In our conversation, Brandi shares how her story of resilience and self-empowerment helped her to discover her gift for sharing stories, and how her choices helped her to create a healing and healthy pathway for her children. Brandi Morin exemplifies how crucial it is to have Indigenous voices representing Indigenous stories in journalism, as she brings forth an authentic voice and creates space for Indigenous perspectives.
