In this week’s episode, we welcome Dr. Jennifer Simmons, an integrative oncologist, breast surgeon, author, podcast host, and the founder of perfeQTion imaging.

Dr. Simmons began her career as Philadelphia’s first fellowship-trained breast surgeon and spent 17 years as Philadelphia’s top breast surgeon. Her own diagnosis of cancer led her to discover functional medicine.

She was captivated by the concept of creating health rather than suppressing symptoms, which led her to leave her traditional medicine practice in 2019 and founded Real Health MD, where she now supports all women on their breast cancer journey toward true healing.

In today’s episode, we discussed the best screening tools for women to help reduce the risk of breast cancer and discuss why mammograms are so readily recommended yet should be avoided. Although controversial, Dr. Jenn reviews evidence that we can’t shy away from. We want all women to be informed about their choices so that they can make the best decisions for their own health. Dr. Jenn is passionate about sharing effective alternatives to mammograms and how she's on a mission to change the standard of care of breast imaging nationwide.

Topics Discussed:

  • Best screening tools for women to help reduce the risk of breast cancer

  • Why mammograms are so readily recommended yet should be avoided

  • What are alternatives to mammograms

  • Ways women can protect themselves against the adverse effects of mammograms

  • Best breast screening options for women who are pregnant and/or nursing

  • Top supplements, foods, and lifestyle habits to help reduce breast cancer risk

I am an integrative oncologist, breast surgeon, author, podcast host, and the founder of perfeQTion imaging. I began my career as Philadelphia’s first fellowship-trained breast surgeon and spent 17 years as Philadelphia’s top breast surgeon. My own illness led me to discover functional medicine. Captivated by the concept of creating health rather than suppressing symptoms, I left traditional medicine in 2019 and founded Real Health MD to support all women on their breast cancer journey toward true healing.
