Carly Cauley is a speech-language-pathologist and group facilitator for MnCAN (Minnesota Connect Aphasia Now), a non-profit providing support and programs for people with aphasia and their families. Aphasia is a language disorder that affects the ability to speak, read, write, and understand what others are saying. It is caused by stroke, brain injury or some progressive neurological disorders. It does not affect intelligence. The inability to communicate can cause devastating isolation. In addition to facilitating conversation groups, she is also MnCAN's Communications and Outreach Coordinator. She has a Masters Degree in Speech Pathology from the University of Minnesota and a BA in Speech and Hearing Science from the University of Iowa. Her areas of interest include aphasia and adult neurogenic communication disorders and AAC. She has supervised and trained graduate students in conducting speech therapy, aphasia conversation groups and cognitive rehabilitation since 2013. As a speech-language pathologist, Carly has worked in a variety of settings including a transitional care unit, outpatient rehabilitation and public schools. Carly facilitates 4 MnCAN aphasia conversation groups (two in-person groups and two virtual group). She also facilitates the PPA Staying Connected Education & Support Program. Carly loves supporting those with communication disorders through a person-centered approach and is thrilled to be part of the MnCAN Team. www.mncan.orghttp://www.mncan.org Enjoying this podcast?
