In this podcast, I have a conversation with Richard Rogers, who has had a fascinating career trajectory. Richard began his journey training as a therapist with me, but soon discovered his passion for garden design, leading him to shift careers. He shares his experiences and the thought process behind moving from therapy to garden design, as well as winning a medal for his mindfulness garden at RHS Chatsworth. We also explore the similarities and differences between coaching and therapy, and Richard offers some valuable advice for those considering a career change.
We discuss the psychological benefits of gardening and nature, touching on how they complement talking therapy and contribute to overall wellbeing. Richard also reflects on his lifetime of personal development and shares the life lessons he's learned along the way. With future plans for his balanced portfolio career, this conversation is both inspirational and packed with practical insights. Subjects covered include:
- why Richard wanted to train as a therapist
- deciding to change direction from therapist to garden designer
- winning a medal for his mindfulness garden at RHS Chatsworth
- benefits of coaching versus therapy
- some advice about changing careers
- the relationship between talking therapy and alternative/complementary ‘therapies’
- the psychological and wellbeing effects of gardening and nature
- life lessons from Richard’s lifetime of personal development
- future plans and having a balanced portfolio career
