Clinical psychologist and podcast host Dr. Shawn Hondorp joins me to talk about the different types of motivation. We discuss how diet culture strips us of an important kind of motivation, the three psychological needs necessary for this holy grail of motivation, and how it impacts habit creation.

Dr. Shawn Hondorp is a board-certified clinical health psychologist living with her husband, two kids, and a pug named Teddy in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She received her undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and her master’s and PhD in Clinical Psychology from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. She has a private practice and a podcast called Motivation Made Easy: Body Respect, True Health, where she talks about how the ways we approach weight loss and health often run counter to what we know about motivation science. She’s incredibly passionate about helping teach women to trust their bodies so they can live courageous and connected lives. Her dream vacation day is hiking along a lake surrounded by mountains holding a warm cup of coffee, followed by a delicious dinner and a soak in a hot tub with an ice cold IPA.
