This week's podcast features Gary and Peter discussing the elephant in the room of the COVID 19 outbreak; mental health. As a collective, we have been forced to modify the way we live, work, and interact in society. For some, this period has meant overwork and burnout; for others, it has meant a loss of connection, purpose, and freedom. Mental health is misunderstood in western societies even in the best of times, even though it is one of the biggest underlying causes of premature death and costing society $50bn in Australia and $300bn US. A great deal of the content in this podcast relates to the RISE course Gary and Soma are facilitating, and the guys delve further into specific practices people can use in their everyday lives. The guys also talk about Stoicism, Buddhism, and Vedic philosophy, whose concepts are infused with a degree of uncertainty to reflect the nature of the times they came into being. In addition, modern mental models like reframing are highlighted to give listeners a better chance of responding to situations instead of reacting. We hope you enjoy the conversation.
