The Science and Application of High-Intensity Interval Training - Dr. Paul Laursen, HIIT Science
Manage episode 317009757 series 3301214
On this episode I sit down with Dr. Paul Laursen to talk about the science and application of high-intensity interval training (HIIT). An Ironman Triathlon competitor himself, Dr. Laursen currently serves as an elite endurance coach for professional Ironman athletes. Additionally, he is the co-founder of HIIT Science, has published over 135 refereed manuscripts in moderate-to-high impact exercise and sports science journals, serves as a low-carb researcher for UCAN, is an adjunct professor of Exercise Physiology at Auckland University of Technology, and is the co-inventor of the Floe Bottle. Dr. Laursen was able to provide detailed insight on the physiologic mechanisms that take place both during and after HIIT training bouts, the physiologic targets of HIIT training, how to manipulate training variables to target a specific physiologic response, active vs. passive recovery, nutritional considerations, and how to efficiently implement HIIT training into a strength and conditioning program.
