Growing up as a tomboy in regional Victoria
Manage episode 308143614 series 2995172
The guest in this episode is Sarah Roberts. From a young age, Sarah knew that she was different. She was ‘gender non-conforming’ as a child, and growing up in Regional Victoria, in the 90s in an Italian-Maltese family, presented some challenges and opportunities. Sarah is incredibly grateful for her family’s support throughout her childhood, especially her mother’s strength in enabling Sarah to be herself and push back on the gender norms that are placed on us all from wider society.
Sarah now works in the area of inclusion and diversity and has worked very closely with trans children and their parents. The main aim of her role and for many others working in the field of mental health is to keep queer people alive.
It is Sarah’s hope and the hope of The Strength of Us Podcast that diversity and inclusion will be an everyday part of life and that all people are treated with an equal amount of respect and dignity.
