I am joined by Tiffany Carter, who shares her insights about healing from narcissistic abuse. After experiencing a narcissistic mother and sexual abuse as a child, she realized the importance of self-care, forgiveness, and specialized help. She shares her journey of resistance, hypervigilance, and nervous energy caused by growing up with a narcissistic mother. As a result of her mother's influence and desire not to be like her, she is resistant to certain things in life. In order to move forward, she had to unpack her resistance and underlying beliefs through healing.
Narcissistic abuse can take many forms, such as emotional abuse, psychological abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse. These abusers are often charming and manipulative, making it difficult to detect their abuse and leave them. A supportive and safe community is essential for people whose backgrounds include narcissistic abuse. Joining online communities, listening to podcasts, and finding people on a similar journey can all provide helpful information. Having a sense of belonging and support is essential for those who suffer from all forms of abuse.
In order to heal and build the life we desire, we must shed our pretenses and masks. Tiffany's story illustrates how she healed trauma wounds and created a life that allows her to thrive. As a result, she has learned to overcome shame, let go of toxic relationships, and build strong boundaries. On her journey to healing, she went deep, slowed down, and practiced discernment.
It is important to not rush the healing process. Spend time doing deep work and implementing growth-promoting practices. Rushing the process can lead to self-sabotage, shame, and wearing masks to please others. Our lives remain impacted by trauma if we do not heal from it.
