Traditional psychology is not without its limits, and on this week’s episode of The Unbeatable Mind, holistic psychologist Dr. Nicole LePera is here to discuss those limits and the importance of integrating mind, body, and spirit for true healing.

Nicole opens up about her own struggles with achievements and the emptiness that followed—-even at the peak of her professional success. She delves into the evolution of therapy, and how moving beyond traditional models can bring about more transformative and resilient ways of living. Tackling issues of codependency, often shaped by one's childhood environment(s), Nicole dissects how these patterns impact one’s adult life and relationships. Her perceptive way of dissecting past trauma can be transformative for anyone who finds themselves on the path towards healing.

Dr. Nicole found herself frustrated with her work as a therapist. She knew that she wanted better for herself and her clients. At the same time, she began to face some hard truths about her own family dynamics, core beliefs, and dysfunctional patterns that led to an emotional breakdown. This led to her own healing journey, and after 2 years of deep transformation she began teaching this work on social media, creating a community of #selfhealers. Dr. Nicole created the SelfHealers Circle to allow people to go on their own journey and create who they want to become. Dr. Nicole lives in Los Angeles, California and loves anywhere that involves the stillness (and quiet) of nature.

Key Takeaways:

  • Holistic Approaches to Healing: Learn about the necessity of multidimensional approaches to healing and how essential it is to integrate emotional, physical and spiritual aspects.

  • External Validation vs. Internal Fulfillment: Discover how even those who appear to be performing at their peak are often the ones seeking external validation—no achievement can take the place of genuine personal connection.

  • The Limitations of Traditional Psychology: Recognize the limitations in modern day methods of therapy—they lack the integration of body and mind.

  • Origins of Codependency: Learn how childhood environments and dysfunctional family dynamics play a role in forming codependent tendencies and what safety mechanisms, if applied early, can help prevent them.
