In this 16 min talk I cover how we as humans often learn through adversity - especially if we get ill in some way via chronic anxiety/depression or physical illness. But often our responses are scripted by past emotional experiences which teach us who we are and therefore limit our beliefs about ourselves and thus our behaviours. This can cause us to do things like pushing through, ignoring our needs, overworking, dissociating our emotions and becoming hyper-vigilant to threat ('it's not safe').
45 The pearl and oyster a metaphor for creating meaning from illness
02 Long-term illness as a learning or healing
01 Illness as a teacher - not a quick fix
33 What is illness - why do we get dis-ease?
30 Emotional repression as a trigger for disease
02 Energetic signatures of different emotions - physiological imprints
45 Repressed emotions from childhood
42 Learned responses to emotions from those around you (parents)
20 Body memory
10 Beliefs about ourselves develop as responses to childhood experience
09 What lies beneath surface coping strategies
08 Patterns of holding in the body
51 Fixed responses to situations are programmed!
40 Dissociation as a form of repression
48 Symptoms as a failure of repair
48 A two way street to brain and body
02 Medical education is lacking in ignoring the mindbody link
